 Spencer Clarke Group are working closely alongside Thurrock Council to provide them a with a Housing Solutions Officer to join their team on a Contract Basis!

Full Time

Rate – £17.66 to £20 (negotiable dependent upon experience- Please submit CV with ate Required)

The Role

Your Role;

  • To interview all applicants who approach the Council in housing need, to determine what actions can be taken to resolve the issues that are threatening them with homelessness and agreeing a personal housing plan aimed at secure their occupation of their current accommodation. If this is not possible, or appropriate, help them to secure alternative accommodation before the eviction takes place.
    • Assess and determine to what extent legal action should be initiated or defended and the tactics as appropriate, in the exercise of our powers and duties under the Protection from Eviction Act 1977, Housing Act 1996 and other relevant legislation in all cases.
    • To write and issue statutory, and outcome of interview letters, including statutory S184 decision letters, letters of referral to other authorities where an applicant’s local connection lies elsewhere, and outcome letters, to advise the applicant of the outcome of their initial interview.
  • To conduct outreach work aimed at promoting the work of the Housing Options Service, preventing future homelessness and promoting alternatives to social housing, as required.

Essentials

  • Ability to have or acquire knowledge an excellent working knowledge of all elements of housing needs: housing advice, homelessness prevention, property allocation and choice based lettings.
  • Ability to have and maintain a thorough and up to date knowledge of relevant policy and strategy areas, including, but not exclusively:
    • Thurrock’s housing strategy and related sub strategies,
    • Thurrock’s social housing allocations policy,
    • The Homeless Reduction Act 2017
    • The Housing Act 1996 Part VI
    • Codes of guidance from central government
    • DWP guidance on personal and housing benefits.
