Finding Help: 7 Mental Health Charities to Access Support

1-2 minutes

If you have ever found yourself struggling with your mental health, you will know how important it is to have someone to talk to.

According to the charity, MIND, every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. If you’re suffering, it’s important to understand that you aren’t alone and that help is available.

If you’re suffering or know someone who is struggling, there are many charities across the UK that specialise in mental health and wellness. We’ve compiled our list of 7 of the best charities and their contact details for you to reach out to them.

Please note, if your life is at imminent risk, please call 999 for immediate help.

MIND

With over 125 ‘Local Minds’, MIND provides support and advice to people suffering from mental health problems across England and Wales.

The charity campaigns to improve services for mental health, raise awareness and promote understanding around the subject, as well as providing a helpline for those needing information.

If you're feeling in crisis, overwhelmed or like things are spiralling out of control, MIND provides practical tools on their website. They also share stories of others experiences to help the reader feel like they’re not alone.

For non-urgent information about mental health support, you can contact MIND on 0300 123 3393 or info@mind.org.uk They are open 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday (except for bank holidays).

If you need to reach out to the Samaritans, you can do so via phone, email, letter, the app or find a branch (Please be aware that some branches are closed due to the pandemic).

To contact the Samaritans:

Phone them on 116 123

Email them at jo@samaritans.org

Send a letter to Freepost RSRB-KKBY-CYJK, Chris, PO Box 9090, Stirling, FK8 2SA

For more than 70 years, the Mental Health Foundation has been working to prevent mental health problems and to help people understand, protect and sustain their mental health.

With prevention at the heart of what they do, the foundation provides advice for all ages and mental health support in the workplace.

While the Mental Health Foundation isn’t a mental health service provider for when people are unwell, they do however offer practical tips and advice for looking after your mental health

If you are in crisis, their website does contain a list of helpful websites (such as NHS Choices and MIND) which you can reach out to.
