Spencer Clarke Group Donate to Local Food Bank
22 Feb, 20231-2 minutesIn our latest charity offering, we have donated hundreds of food items to our local food bank, The Trussell Trust.
With the rise in the cost of living putting pressure on food banks and its users, food banks are expecting a surge in demand over the winter period.
The number of parcels distributed by The Trussell Trust has been gradually rising for over the last decade, with dramatic increases during 2013 and 2020, but with inflation currently surging month on month, the demand for food banks is expected to rise.
Within the UK, it’s thought that 14 million people, including 4.5 million children, are currently living in poverty and The Trussell Trust provides emergency food parcels from their 1,200 centres to those in crisis.
Within the Spencer Clarke Group office, a tuck shop of goodies (sweets/crisps/chocolate) is kindly provided by our Managing Director, Mike Shorrock and Shareholder Michael Spencer; employees can then purchase items from the tuck shop with all the money raised going to charity.
From the tuck shop money raised over the previous month, we purchased hundreds of food items for The Trussell Trust including tinned food, cereals, biscuits, soup, crisps and Christmas chocolates.
Mike Shorrock, Managing Director, said, “It’s really important that we support the local community as much as we can. It’s a very challenging time for a lot of people and in times of need, communities must come together.”
If you're struggling to afford the essentials or need advice and support, The Trussell Trust offers a free helpline.
