Spencer Clarke Group Partner With Leading Family Support Charity, Home-Start
07 Jun, 20241-2 minutesWe’re thrilled to announce that we have partnered with leading family support charity, Home-Start Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre.
Home-Start works locally to help families with young children deal with the challenges they face. The volunteers support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children.
The Home-Start team can assist families with a range of issues including coping with a mental health illness, long-term illness or a physical disability, feelings of isolation, bereavement or coping after a relationship ends. The charity also works with British Forces families based on the Fylde Coast.
As part of our ongoing commitment to support the local community, we pledge to support Home-Start in their vital work. In June 2024, we donated over 100 brand new toys, books, arts and crafts to support families through the school summer holidays.
While the summer holidays are a chance for children to relax from school, often parents can struggle with juggling work and childcare, and entertaining their children for 6 long weeks.
With the Spencer Clarke Group office based in Preston, a stone's throw from Blackpool, we are well informed about the challenges families in the community face.
A recent investigation found that one in every 52 children in Blackpool is in care compared with one in 140 across England - stats which the researchers describe as ‘deeply rooted social inequalities.’
Co-author of the report, Professor David Taylor-Robinson, said “Cuts to prevention services, things like Sure Start, family support, investment in youth services have been cut, particularly in the areas where they're needed most.”
He added “In those places poverty has gone up, that's increased the number of children in the care system and it's putting incredible pressure on health and care systems.”
With so many government cuts to essential services, the vital work from the Home-Start team provides a lifeline for families across Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre. They believe that the earliest years make the biggest impact and it is their mission to make sure those years count so that no child’s future is limited. They further believe that children who are raised in a stable, loving, family environment are more likely to have a positive and healthy future.
