Position: Primary SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Stockport, Greater Manchester
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Are you passionate about working with children with special educational needs (SEN)? Do you have the experience and enthusiasm to support young learners in a nurturing, specialist environment? We are looking for a dedicated and empathetic Teaching Assistant to join our primary SEN school in Stockport. As a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support students in a variety of ways to enable them to access the curriculum and develop their full potential. This role will offer you the opportunity to work in a rewarding and dynamic environment where every day brings new opportunities to make a positive impact.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support for students with a range of special educational needs.
  • Support students with learning, communication, physical, and emotional needs.
  • Assist in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and tailored learning strategies.
  • Help maintain a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other staff members to deliver a holistic support approach.
  • Encourage students to develop independence, confidence, and social skills.
  • Support students' personal, social, and emotional development.


Essential Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, preferably in a primary setting.
  • Knowledge of SEN and understanding of a range of learning difficulties and disabilities.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive, solution-focused attitude.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Relevant SEN qualifications or a willingness to work towards one.


Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience in supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, or speech and language needs.
  • A good understanding of the Primary curriculum and how to adapt it for children with SEN.
