SEND Mediation and Tribunal Officer

£400 - £450 per day

3-6 month initial contract, likely to be extended

Fully remote working - Southwest England

Spencer Clarke Group are seeking an experienced SEND Mediation and Tribunal Officer to support our local authority client in Southwest England in meeting their legal obligations to SENDIST (Tribunals and Appeals).

The SEND Mediation and Tribunal Officer will be accountable for SENDIST processes, ensuring that each appeal is handled efficiently and within statutory timeframes.

Essential Requirements:

  • Secure knowledge of current SEN legislation and experience in representing local authorities at SEND Tribunals.
  • Strong time management skills, ensuring Tribunal cases are handled within statutory deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience in mediation and conflict resolution.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Act as a main point of contact for parents, carers or young people who lodge an appeal against Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) decisions.
  • Represent the Local Authority at tribunal hearings where required, presenting evidence and working with legal representatives.
  • Liaise with schools and families to resolve disputes without the need for tribunal where possible.

Skills required:

  • Highly organised with the ability to manage appeals, maintain clear records and keep all parties informed at every stage.
  • Excellent negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, manage deadlines and handle complex caseloads.
