Rate: £55-60 p/h DOE

About the Role

One of our London Borough authorities is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Contracts and Procurement Lawyer to provide expert legal support on complex commercial transactions and procurement matters. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to high-profile projects in a progressive and ambitious local authority, committed to delivering excellent services for residents.

As part of the Commercial Contracts and Procurement Team, you will manage a varied caseload of complex commercial agreements, procurement matters, and economic regeneration projects. You will also oversee and support a Contracts Lawyer within the team, ensuring high standards of legal service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice on contract law, procurement, commercial transactions, and public sector governance.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review complex legal agreements, including commercial contracts and procurement documents.
  • Manage a substantial personal caseload, handling high-profile and sensitive legal matters.
  • Support and advise on contract claims and disputes involving the Council.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement legislation and best practices, mitigating legal risks.
  • Supervise and develop a Contracts Lawyer, overseeing workload allocation and professional growth.
  • Represent the Legal Team at Council committees, executive meetings, and working groups.
  • Deliver training and briefings on legislative changes, case law, and procurement processes to senior officers and stakeholders.

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEx in England & Wales.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in commercial contracts and procurement law.
  • Strong knowledge of contract law, public procurement law, and commercial law.
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring junior legal professionals.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and apply new legislation effectively.
