Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Burnley, Lancashire

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support to a child with SEN in a KS1 setting.
  • Assist in the implementation of individualised education plans and behavior management strategies.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the academic, social, and emotional development of the student.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure the student's needs are met effectively.
  • Support the student in accessing the curriculum and adapting learning materials as necessary.
  • Monitor and record the student's progress, behaviors, and achievements.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, preferably in a school setting.
  • A qualification related to working with children in schools, such as Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning.
  • Knowledge and understanding of various special educational needs, particularly physical disabilities and communication aids.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviors effectively and sensitively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the educational development of children with SEN.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working with physical disabilities and familiarity with communication aids.
  • Training or certifications in relevant areas such as Makaton, PECS, or Team-Teach.
  • Understanding of KS1 curriculum and teaching methods.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
