Meet the Team - Paul Best

We recently caught up with Lead Consultant on our education & SEND team, Paul Best, to discover more about his career path so far and what’s next for him at Spencer Clarke Group.

How long have you worked at Spencer Clarke Group?

I started working at Spencer Clarke Group in September 2023. I have enjoyed every moment so far and I'm excited for what's yet to come!

What markets do you specialise in?

I specialise in SEN education, placing Teachers and Teaching Assistants in SEN schools across Lancashire!

What do you love most about what you do?

For me, I love pairing high quality staff with outstanding schools. It's all about creating those perfect matches where they can thrive and grow.

What motivates you at work?

I’m a competitive person and enjoy hitting my goals. My team is very supportive and we celebrate each other’s successes, this paired with the buzz of placing a candidate in a long term role at a school keeps me going!

How would you describe working at Spencer Clarke Group?

Fun! There hasn’t been a day where I’ve not laughed. I look forward to coming to work and haven’t once had the ‘Sunday Scaries’.

Tell us about your career path so far.

I qualified as a PE Teacher in 2010 and taught in PRUs in the Blackpool and Burnley areas. I then decided to travel the world from 2012-19. I worked on super yachts during Covid before landing an Education Consultant role back in 2021. I’ve been an SEN Recruitment Consultant ever since!

How would your colleagues describe you?

I think they would describe me like a mullet…business in the front, party in the back!

Where are we most likely to find you outside of work?

Outside of work, you'll find me spending time with my friends and family (we enjoy going skiing), watching football or hiking in the Lakes!

I'm a qualified Site Carpenter.

What’s next for you at Spencer Clarke Group?

I’d like to continue growing my desk and to carry on placing exceptional candidates in their desired roles!

New Zealand but Fiji isn’t far behind.

What advice would you give to your young self?

Take the risk - you can work it out at a later date.

Have you ever met anyone famous?

I hosted Camilla Cabello’s birthday party at the top of Blackpool Tower in 2020. Shawn Mendez was also in attendance!

What three items would you take with you to a deserted island?

A fishing rod, a knife and a hammock.

Do you have any pets?

A few house spiders, that's all.

Do you have any hidden talents?

So hidden that they cannot be found…

What animal is your spirit animal?

A bear - according to a quiz on Google!
