Professionals in the Accountancy and Finance Sector Are Concerned Over Lack of Workplace Flexibility
27 Feb, 20251-2 minutes
Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic, flexibility has been a fundamental aspect of modern workplaces, allowing employees to maintain a better work-life balance and improve productivity.
We recently conducted our own research with accountancy and finance professionals across accountancy practices, local authorities and the private sector and found that 30% consider flexibility to be the most important perk in 2025.
After speaking to professionals ranging from juniors to seniors, our report found that offering flexible benefits is key to attracting and retaining the best talent and improving employee satisfaction.
18.3% of professionals cited having no flexibility as their biggest career concern and 11.7% said that seeking opportunities for flexible work would be their reason for searching for a new job.
A Senior Finance Manager said, “There is very little flexibility and consideration for employee needs, not just the needs of the business.”
A female Senior Manager added, “You have to be flexible working in the finance industry due to demands and deadlines at different times of the month and I expect the flexibility I offer to be reciprocated.”
The report revealed that work-life balance is an important factor for accountancy and finance professionals with some suggesting a four-day working week to increase job satisfaction, reduce stress and boost productivity.
18.3% of professionals surveyed said a four-day working week is the most desirable benefit or perk, followed by 13.3% of respondents who said flexitime.
A Senior Finance Manager said, “Working four days is plenty to get the job done to a high standard but a lot of employers don't understand this.”
Finance recruitment specialist, Shannon McGarry said, “When professionals in accountancy and finance ask for greater workplace flexibility, the most important thing an employer can do is provide opportunities for flexibility where possible.”
Shannon continued, “Employers that recognise and act on what employees want will ultimately be the ones that succeed and retain the best talent.”
