Chief Operating Officer

John Shorrock

Hi, I’m Thomas,

I’m the Chief Operating Officer at Spencer Clarke Group.

I joined Spencer Clarke Group as the first employee when the business opened its doors in 2017. From day one, I believed in the vision and it has been incredibly rewarding to watch that early ambition evolve into a nationally recognised, high-performing recruitment agency.

Seeing the organisation grow from a concept into an award-winning, multi-sector business has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career. Our team is at the heart of everything we do, a group of talented, driven specialists who consistently deliver exceptional service to clients and candidates across the UK.

With a degree in Business Management and over 15 years’ experience in recruitment, I’ve developed a strong understanding of what drives operational excellence, trusted client relationships and long-term partnerships. As COO, I oversee the operational, commercial and compliance functions of the business, ensuring we scale sustainably while maintaining the innovative, people-first culture that defines us.

Today, Spencer Clarke Group supports hundreds of public sector organisations, multi-academy trusts and schools across the UK, with continued year-on-year growth. Our recent achievements reflect the standards we’ve set. At the 2025 Recruiter Awards, we won Best Temporary Recruitment Agency and Best Public/Third Sector Recruitment Agency, followed by Best Company to Work For (up to 100 employees) at the 2025 REC Awards. These accolades, along with being named Recruitment Agency of the Year in 2024, demonstrate the dedication, expertise and culture we’ve worked hard to build.

Outside of work, I’m kept busy by two South African leopard tortoises and Pumpkin, my dog. As a lifelong Liverpool supporter, I’m often at Anfield whenever I get the chance.
