Assistant Director - SEND Transformation

£800 per day | South East England | Hybrid Working

Contract: Until 31st March 2027

Spencer Clarke Group are working in partnership with a local authority in the South East of England to recruit an experienced Assistant Director - SEND Transformation.

This is a senior strategic leadership opportunity to oversee a significant programme of transformation across Additional Needs & Disabilities (AND) services, driving service improvement, financial sustainability and better outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of a large-scale SEND transformation and improvement programme.

• Drive strategic improvements aligned with the local authority's SEND strategy, Improvement Plan and Safety Valve Agreement.

• Oversee complex transformation projects, ensuring delivery against agreed milestones, financial targets and strategic objectives.

• Lead initiatives focused on High Needs Block cost containment and long-term financial sustainability.

• Provide strategic leadership to a multidisciplinary programme team.

• Work closely with senior council officers, elected Members, education providers, health partners and other key stakeholders.

• Oversee a transformation budget of approximately £2.5 million.

• Ensure transformation programmes deliver measurable and sustainable improvements for children, young people and families.

Essential Experience

• Significant senior leadership experience delivering complex SEND transformation programmes.

Desirable Experience

• Strong knowledge of SEND legislation, statutory responsibilities and service delivery.

• Experience supporting SEND improvement programmes or Safety Valve Agreements.

• Understanding of education, health and social care commissioning.

Contract Details

Rate: £800 per day
