Teaching Assistant - Secondary Behaviour Unit

Spencer Clarke Group are working with a secondary school looking for a Teaching Assistant to join their behaviour unit, supporting pupils who require additional help to engage positively with education.

This role would suit someone who is confident, resilient and able to build strong relationships with young people who may display challenging behaviour. You will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to provide structure, consistency and targeted support, helping pupils to regulate their behaviour and successfully access learning.

The role will involve:

• Supporting pupils within the school's behaviour unit and, where appropriate, back into mainstream lessons
• Working with students on a 1:1 and small-group basis
• Supporting pupils with behaviour, engagement and emotional regulation
• Using de-escalation and positive behaviour management strategies
• Helping pupils complete set academic work while removed from mainstream lessons
• Building positive, professional relationships while maintaining clear boundaries
• Working alongside teaching, pastoral and safeguarding staff
• Recording and reporting any behavioural or safeguarding concerns appropriately

We're looking for someone who:

• Has experience working with secondary-aged young people
• Is confident managing challenging behaviour and difficult situations
• Can remain calm, consistent and professional when pupils become dysregulated
• Has strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Understands the importance of safeguarding and professional boundaries
• Is reliable and able to work effectively as part of a wider school team

Previous experience within a school, behaviour unit, alternative provision, youth work, SEMH setting or similar environment would be advantageous.

This could also suit someone from a sports coaching, mentoring, youth work or support background who has strong behaviour management skills and is looking to move into education.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
