Head of Landlord Compliance and Building Safety
Location: South West England
Rate: £700 Per day
Contract: 6 - Months Ongoing
Spencer Clarke Group are supporting a local authority to appoint a Head of Landlord Compliance and Building Safety within their Housing Property Services team.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for making sure landlord compliance and building safety are managed properly across a housing portfolio. You will lead the compliance strategy, strengthen assurance and reporting, and ensure the council meets its statutory duties across key safety areas, with a strong focus on risk management, resident safety, and high standards of evidence and record keeping.
Responsibilities include
- Leading the landlord compliance and building safety function across the housing portfolio
- Owning the approach to statutory compliance across areas such as gas, electrical, fire safety, water hygiene, asbestos and lifts
- Leading the council's response to Building Safety Act requirements, including safety case work and resident engagement approaches
- Setting clear policies, procedures, assurance checks and audit activity so compliance is consistent and measurable
- Providing senior oversight of performance reporting so leaders have clear visibility of risk, compliance position and improvement actions
- Leading and influencing operational teams, contractors and partners to deliver safe, high-quality services
- Acting as the senior technical lead, providing guidance and challenge where needed
- Ensuring data, digital records and compliance evidence are accurate, complete and kept up to date
About you
- Proven leadership experience in landlord compliance and or building safety within social housing, property, or another regulated environment
- Strong working knowledge of statutory compliance areas including gas, electrical, fire safety, water hygiene, asbestos and lifts
- Up to date understanding of the Building Safety Act and wider building and fire safety legislation
- Experience building assurance frameworks, managing risk, and reporting to senior stakeholders
- Confident stakeholder management, including working with residents, regulators, partners and senior leaders
- Relevant professional qualification in a property related field, or equivalent senior experience in a compliance led property setting
- NEBOSH or similar health and safety qualification is desirable for this level of role
