Head Of Planning
Location: Yorkshire
Rate: £750 - 800 Per day
Contract: 5 - Months Ongoing
Spencer Clarke Group are supporting a local authority to appoint a Head of Planning within their Planning service.
This is a senior leadership role heading up the council's Planning function. You'll lead the service across development management and wider planning disciplines, ensuring statutory responsibilities are delivered properly, performance is managed tightly, and elected Members are supported with clear professional advice.
Responsibilities include
- Leading the Planning service across areas including development management, enforcement, planning policy, conservation and urban design, building control, flood management and archaeology
- Ensuring statutory planning functions are delivered effectively and that robust professional advice supports decision making
- Supporting the Planning Committee process, including providing clear guidance and helping Members stay up to date with key planning requirements
- Setting direction, priorities and service plans to make sure work is coordinated and deadlines are met
- Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, representing the council at a senior level when required
- Overseeing performance, reporting and improvement activity to strengthen service delivery
- Managing budgets, income expectations and resources to make sure the service is financially controlled and sustainable
About you
- Strong senior leadership experience within a local authority Planning service
- Proven background across development management and broader planning functions
- Confident advising Members and working with Planning Committees in a politically aware environment
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence internally and externally
- Experience managing performance, service planning and budgets within a complex public sector setting
