School Caretaker

Location: Wirral
Hours: Approximately 37.5 hours per week
Working Days: Monday to Friday
Shift Pattern: Flexible shifts, which may include split shifts

We are currently looking for an experienced, reliable and hands-on School Caretaker to join our team at a school on the Wirral.
The ideal candidate will have previous maintenance experience, preferably within a school, care home or similar environment. They must be practical, trustworthy and able to ensure the school premises are safe, secure and well maintained.

Duties and Responsibilities

• 
  Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs around the school.
• 
  Ensuring the school buildings, grounds and facilities are safe and well maintained.
• 
  Completing basic plumbing, decorating, carpentry and DIY tasks where competent.
• 
  Carrying out routine site checks and reporting any faults or hazards.
• 
  Opening and closing the school premises as required.
• 
  Ensuring doors, windows and gates are secure.
• 
  Maintaining outdoor areas, including pathways and school grounds.
• 
  Assisting with deliveries, moving furniture and setting up rooms when required.
• 
  Liaising with contractors and reporting maintenance issues.
• 
  Following all health and safety procedures and safeguarding requirements.

Essential Requirements

• 
  A valid DBS certificate registered on the DBS Update Service is essential.
• 
  Previous maintenance or caretaker experience is essential.
• 
  Good practical skills and the ability to carry out general repairs.
• 
  Reliable, punctual and trustworthy.
• 
  Able to work independently and use initiative.
• 
  Good awareness of health and safety.
• 
  Flexible approach to working hours, including split shifts where required.

Desirable Experience

• 
  Previous caretaker or maintenance experience within a school, care home or similar setting.
• 
  Experience of building maintenance, site security and general repairs.
• 
  Understanding of safeguarding procedures in environments where children or vulnerable people are present.

Working Hours

Approximately 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Shifts may be split to meet the needs of the school.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
