We are looking for a friendly and hardworking School Kitchen Assistant to join the catering team at a specialist school supporting children and young people aged 5-19 with Autism Spectrum Conditions and associated challenges in accessing education.

The Role

As a School Kitchen Assistant, you will work alongside the School Cook and wider catering team to ensure the smooth and efficient preparation and service of hot and cold meals.
You will play an important role in maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and safety while helping to create a positive mealtime experience for pupils.
Your responsibilities will include:

• 
  Working closely with the School Cook to ensure the prompt and efficient preparation and service of hot and cold meals.
• 
  Assisting with food preparation and general kitchen duties.
• 
  Maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the school kitchen and associated areas.
• 
  Cleaning kitchen equipment, utensils and work surfaces in line with cleaning schedules.
• 
  Assisting with menu planning when required.
• 
  Supporting the ordering, receiving and storage of food deliveries.
• 
  Following food hygiene, health and safety and COSHH procedures.
• 
  Ensuring food is handled, prepared and stored safely.
• 
  Working flexibly and effectively within a busy kitchen environment.

About You

We are looking for someone who is proactive, organised and takes pride in maintaining high standards within a catering environment.
You will ideally have:

• 
  Previous experience working in a catering environment, ideally within a school, residential or healthcare setting.
• 
  Good working knowledge of kitchen equipment and cleaning schedules.
• 
  The ability to work proactively and independently, as well as part of a team.
• 
  A good understanding of health and safety legislation, including COSHH regulations.
• 
  Knowledge of manual handling and food hygiene procedures.
• 
  An understanding of safe food preparation and handling requirements.
• 
  Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues.
• 
  A flexible approach and the ability to respond positively to a variety of daily requests.
• 
  High standards of personal hygiene and presentation.

Safeguarding Requirement

A full, current Enhanced DBS certificate registered with the DBS Update Service is essential for this role.
