Spencer Clarke Group is working in partnership with a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Teacher to join their team as soon as possible.
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator with a strong science background who is confident teaching secondary-aged pupils up to GCSE level. The school supports young people with social, emotional and mental health needs, providing a structured and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to engage with education, develop their confidence and achieve their potential.
The successful candidate will be committed to delivering engaging, accessible and differentiated science lessons, adapting their teaching approach to meet the individual needs of pupils and helping them develop both academically and personally.
The position is available on a full-time basis, with both temporary and permanent opportunities considered to suit the needs of the school and the successful candidate.
The Role
The Science Teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality science lessons to secondary-aged pupils, supporting their progress towards GCSE-level qualifications while fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
Key responsibilities include:
Planning and delivering engaging science lessons across the secondary age range, up to GCSE level.
Teaching science in a way that makes learning accessible, meaningful and relevant to pupils with SEMH needs.
Differentiating lessons and adapting teaching strategies to meet a range of abilities, learning styles and individual needs.
Creating a positive, structured and supportive classroom environment that encourages participation, engagement and achievement.
Managing classroom behaviour effectively, using consistent and positive behaviour-management strategies.
Monitoring, assessing and recording pupil progress, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for development.
Supporting pupils to develop their confidence, resilience, independence and enthusiasm for learning.
Building positive relationships with pupils and establishing clear expectations to promote successful learning.
Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral staff and the wider school team to support pupil progress and wellbeing.
Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils.
Contributing to curriculum planning, assessment and wider school improvement priorities.
Ensuring that lessons are well prepared, appropriately resourced and aligned with relevant curriculum requirements.
The successful candidate will be a motivated and adaptable teacher with a strong subject knowledge in science and a genuine commitment to supporting young people with additional needs.
You will ideally have:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
A strong background in science, with the ability to teach secondary-aged pupils up to GCSE level.
Experience teaching science within a secondary school or specialist educational setting.
An understanding of SEMH needs and the barriers to learning that pupils may experience.
The ability to differentiate lessons and adapt teaching approaches to engage pupils with varying abilities and needs.
Strong classroom and behaviour-management skills, with a calm, consistent and supportive approach.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and promoting positive outcomes for all young people.
A flexible, resilient and solutions-focused approach to teaching.
The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
A passion for helping pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally.
Experience within an SEMH or alternative provision setting would be advantageous. However, candidates with strong science subject knowledge, relevant teaching experience and a genuine willingness to support pupils with additional needs are encouraged to apply.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist educational setting where you can make a meaningful difference to the lives of young people who benefit from additional support and a personalised approach to learning.
You will have the opportunity to deliver engaging science lessons, support pupils in working towards recognised qualifications and contribute to an environment that prioritises positive relationships, personal development and academic achievement.
With both temporary and permanent options available, this role offers flexibility for teachers seeking either an immediate placement or a longer-term career opportunity within specialist education.
