A specialist Primary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the Longsight area of Manchester is seeking a committed and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team from September. This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday, initially through an education agency with the opportunity to secure a permanent contract for the right candidate.

The Role:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs and additional behavioural challenges.
  • Support pupils in developing positive relationships, emotional regulation, and engagement with learning.
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to implement behaviour support strategies and personalised learning plans.
  • Help create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment where pupils can succeed.
  • Encourage confidence, resilience, and independence both inside and outside the classroom.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or within a PRU, alternative provision, or specialist setting is highly desirable.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting pupils with complex needs.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  • The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children who may have experienced barriers to learning.
  • A genuine passion for helping pupils overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.
