Are you a passionate and resilient Teaching Assistant with experience supporting young people with SEN, SEMH and challenging behaviour?

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Rochdale, supporting pupils who may have experienced barriers to education and require additional support to engage positively with learning.

The Role

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant within the PRU, you will work closely with teachers and the wider pastoral team to provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of additional needs.

You will play an important role in helping pupils regulate their emotions, manage behaviour, rebuild confidence and develop positive attitudes towards education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN and SEMH needs
  • Supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, anxiety, behavioural and communication needs
  • Helping pupils manage emotions and regulate their behaviour
  • Supporting pupils to engage with lessons and learning activities
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with young people
  • Using positive behaviour strategies to encourage engagement
  • Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff
  • Supporting pupils' social, emotional and academic development
  • Promoting independence, confidence and positive behaviour

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH
  • Experience within a school, PRU, alternative provision, specialist setting or similar environment
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • The ability to build positive relationships with challenging or vulnerable pupils
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to education

Why Apply?

This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a supportive PRU environment in Rochdale, helping young people who may have struggled in mainstream education to re-engage, develop their confidence and achieve their potential.

To apply, please send over your CV and a member of our team will be in touch to discuss the role further.
