We are looking for a Specialist Behaviour Practitioner to join our dedicated team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about understanding behaviour, supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning and development.

You will work closely with children and young people who may present with social, emotional and mental health needs, challenging behaviour, additional needs or difficulties engaging with education. Your role will focus on understanding the reasons behind behaviour, developing positive strategies and helping young people build the skills they need to succeed.

The Role
As a Specialist Behaviour Practitioner, you will:

  • Provide individual and small-group behaviour support.
  • Develop positive and professional relationships with young people.
  • Observe, assess and identify patterns, triggers and potential functions of behaviour.
  • Develop and implement individualised behaviour support plans and strategies.
  • Promote positive behaviour through consistent, restorative and strengths-based approaches.
  • Provide practical guidance and strategies to teaching and support staff.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, parents/carers and external professionals.
  • Monitor behaviour, progress and outcomes, maintaining accurate records.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
  • Support staff in responding appropriately to incidents and challenging behaviour.
  • Promote a calm, safe, inclusive and positive environment.

About You
We are looking for someone who is:

  • Calm, patient, compassionate and resilient.
  • Experienced in working with children or young people with behavioural or additional needs.
  • Confident managing and responding to challenging behaviour.
  • Able to understand behaviour from a needs-led and non-judgemental perspective.
  • Skilled at building positive relationships with young people who may struggle to trust adults.
  • Able to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
  • A strong communicator and effective team player.
  • Organised and confident with recording, monitoring and reviewing interventions.
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • DBS on the update service or the willingness to obtain one


Experience within alternative provision, SEND, SEMH, specialist education, youth services or behaviour support would be highly desirable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
