Want a job that makes a real difference?

Are you naturally caring, patient and someone who enjoys helping others? Are you looking for a new career opportunity where no two days are the same?
We are looking for enthusiastic, compassionate and dedicated individuals to join specialist schools and alternative provisions across Skelmersdale, supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
You don't need previous teaching experience or a relevant qualification. What matters most is your personality, commitment and ability to build positive relationships with young people who need additional support.

What will you be doing?

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in helping pupils feel safe, supported and confident in their learning.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing individual and small-group support to pupils.

  • Helping children with additional learning needs access the curriculum.

  • Supporting pupils who may struggle with emotional regulation, anxiety or challenging behaviours.

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and promoting independence.

  • Building trusting relationships and acting as a positive role model.

  • Helping pupils develop their social skills, confidence and communication.

  • Working closely with teaching staff to provide a consistent and supportive approach.

What makes a great Teaching Assistant?

We aren't necessarily looking for qualifications or years of experience. Instead, we're looking for people who have:

  • A calm, patient and understanding approach.

  • The confidence to manage challenging situations positively.

  • A caring and supportive nature.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • A flexible attitude and willingness to learn.

  • The resilience to support pupils through difficult moments.

  • A genuine passion for helping young people succeed.

Could your previous experience be transferable?

You may already have many of the skills we're looking for!
We would particularly welcome applications from people with experience in:

  • Care and support work.

  • Youth work and mentoring.

  • Sports coaching and activity leadership.

  • Residential childcare.

  • Mental health and wellbeing support.

  • Hospitality, retail and customer-facing roles.

  • Anyone looking to make a positive career change.

What's in it for you?

  • Flexible opportunities, including full-time and part-time roles.

  • Valuable hands-on experience in specialist education.

  • Opportunities to develop new skills and gain further training.

  • Support from an experienced recruitment team.

  • Potential long-term and permanent career opportunities.

Essential Requirements

  • A genuine interest in working with children and young people.

  • A positive, reliable and professional attitude.

  • The right to work in the UK.

  • An enhanced DBS check or willingness to obtain one.

  • Suitable references.
