Active Travel Project Engineer
Location: West Midlands
Rate: Up to £45 Per hour DOE
Contract: 12 Months
Spencer Clarke Group are supporting a local authority client to appoint an Active Travel Project Engineer to support the design and delivery of walking and cycling improvements and wider sustainable transport initiatives.
This is a delivery-focused role, taking schemes from early concept through design, consultation, construction and close-out, working with internal stakeholders, members, the public, developers and delivery partners.
Responsibilities include
- Leading the planning, organisation and delivery of active travel schemes from inception to completion
- Reviewing and providing technical input on the active travel aspects of planning applications
- Assessing Transport Assessments and Travel Plans, and shaping required mitigation
- Liaising with developers and stakeholders, including supporting legal agreements and statutory processes
- Checking and approving designs, drawings, estimates and specifications relevant to active travel works
- Supporting consultation activity and responding to member and stakeholder enquiries
- Managing contractors and supporting contract documentation through the construction stage
About you
- Strong experience delivering highways and active travel schemes within a local authority or consultancy setting
- Working knowledge of LTN 1/20 and good practice in cycle and walking infrastructure design
- Comfortable dealing with development-related workstreams and stakeholder engagement
- Confident interpreting drawings and ideally hands-on with AutoCAD
- Ideally Chartered or Incorporated, or able to evidence equivalent experience (HNC plus significant scheme delivery also considered)
