Area Planning Manager
Location: West Midlands
Rate: £500 per day
Contract: 3-6 months

Spencer Clarke Group are supporting a local authority to appoint a Area Planning Manager within their Development Management (Planning) service.

This is a senior planning role providing leadership across development management, ensuring high quality, timely planning decisions and strong governance. You will oversee an area based team, lead on complex applications and act as the senior professional contact for members, applicants and key stakeholders, including supporting and presenting at planning committees.

Responsibilities include
* Supporting the Planning and Development Services Manager to deliver an effective development management service
* Leading on the assessment and determination of large and complex planning applications
* Managing and supporting Principal Planning Officers, with oversight across wider planning officer teams and performance targets
* Leading the preparation and presentation of reports to planning committee, including attending as the lead professional officer
* Ensuring consistent, timely decision making against local and national performance requirements
* Providing senior planning advice on strategic and corporate development projects, working with internal and external partners
* Handling formal responses to complaints, enquiries and information requests in line with corporate and statutory processes
* Supporting service improvement by developing new approaches and maintaining strong relationships with agents and advisors

About you
* Strong senior level experience within local authority development management planning
* Proven ability to lead teams, manage performance and support staff development
* Experience assessing and determining complex planning applications and producing clear, defensible recommendations
* Confidence presenting to planning committee and engaging with elected members and senior stakeholders
* Good working knowledge of relevant planning legislation, policy and regulatory requirements
* Ability to manage competing priorities, maintain governance standards and deliver to performance targets
