An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced HCPC-registered Educational Psychologist to join a well-established and ambitious local authority educational psychology service in the North West.
As an Educational Psychologist, you will work collaboratively with children and young people, families, education professionals and wider multi-agency teams to develop a holistic understanding of individual strengths, needs and circumstances. You will use psychological theory, evidence-based practice and professional judgement to inform assessment, consultation, intervention and recommendations that support positive educational, developmental and wellbeing outcomes.
This role will see you working with children and young people across a broad range of educational, clinical, and residential settings. These include mainstream and specialist schools, colleges, nurseries, EOTIS provision, neurodevelopmental assessment services, and residential placements.
A key focus of the role will be providing high-quality, individualised support to children and young people with complex needs, particularly those with SEN and children who are looked after (CLA).
The role
You will be required to work directly with children and young people to develop a holistic understanding of their strengths, needs, experiences and aspirations, ensuring their views and voice remain central to assessment, planning and decision-making.
You must be able to conduct high-quality psychological assessments within agreed timescales, drawing on a range of appropriate assessment methods, observations, consultations and psychological frameworks to develop a comprehensive understanding of each child or young person's needs.
You will work alongside schools, educators, and parents/carers to implement effective support plans.
You must develop and deliver tailored interventions to support learning, emotional wellbeing, and social development.
You will provide training and workshops on SEN, neurodiversity, trauma, and attachment.
You must produce clear, high-quality, person-centred reports that are person-centred, evidence-informed and accessible to children and young people, families and professionals, with recommendations that are practical, meaningful and focused on positive outcomes.
You will contribute to service development and promote inclusive practices.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop formulations and intervention plans.
You will champion inclusion and positive outcomes by supporting educational settings and wider services to understand and respond effectively to individual differences, reduce barriers to participation and create environments in which children and young people can feel understood, valued and supported.
About you
You must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist/Educational Psychologist and meet all relevant professional requirements.
You must have significant experience of working within an educational psychology service, ideally within a local authority or a comparable setting, with experience of managing varied and complex casework.
You must demonstrate a strong and up-to-date knowledge of psychological theory and practice, SEND legislation and statutory processes, as well as trauma-informed and relational approaches to supporting children and young people.
You must be confident in selecting, delivering and interpreting a range of evidence-based psychological assessments and interventions, using professional judgement to develop practical, person-centred recommendations that lead to meaningful outcomes.
You must be an excellent communicator, able to translate complex psychological concepts into clear, accessible and practical advice for children and young people, families, education professionals and other agencies.
You will be passionate about inclusion, neurodiversity-affirming practice and promoting the voice of the child or young person, recognising individual strengths and ensuring that recommendations are responsive to each person's needs, identity and circumstances.
You must be confident working within multi-agency and multidisciplinary environments, contributing psychological expertise while working collaboratively with education, health, social care and other professionals.
