Spencer Clarke Group are working to recruit an experienced Interim Head of Service - Music Service & Music Hub in the Norfolk area.

This is a senior interim leadership opportunity, taking responsibility for a nationally recognised Music Hub alongside a substantial traded Music Service. You'll provide strong and effective leadership, ensuring continuity of service delivery while overseeing a diverse workforce, significant budgets and key partnerships at local, regional and national level.

The role would suit an experienced senior leader who can quickly understand a complex service, build credibility with stakeholders and provide clear strategic direction from the outset.

The Role

As Interim Head of Service, you'll take overall responsibility for the leadership and effective delivery of the Music Service and Music Hub.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strategic leadership and direction across the Music Service and Music Hub.
  • Leading and supporting a diverse team of approximately 45 teachers, managers, associates and business support staff.
  • Ensuring continued delivery against the priorities of the National Plan for Music Education.
  • Managing key relationships with the Department for Education, Arts Council England and other national stakeholders.
  • Maintaining and developing effective partnerships with schools, communities and external organisations.
  • Overseeing financial planning, budget management, grant reporting and service sustainability.
  • Maintaining high standards of service delivery, quality assurance and performance.
  • Providing leadership across safeguarding, governance, risk management and health and safety.
  • The position has a broad partnership and community focus, with approximately 30% of the role focused within schools and 70% across wider partnership and community delivery.

About You

We're looking for an established senior leader who can step into a complex service and provide confident leadership during an interim period.

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Significant strategic leadership experience.
  • A track record of successfully leading large and diverse teams.
  • Experience managing complex budgets, ideally incorporating traded and grant-funded activity.
  • The ability to operate effectively within a complex public sector or comparable environment.
  • Experience of project management, service improvement and organisational change.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities relating to children and young people.
  • The ability to quickly assess priorities, manage competing demands and maintain effective service delivery.

Experience within music education, Music Hubs, cultural services, schools or the wider music industry would be particularly relevant.

Candidates should hold a degree or equivalent professional qualification, alongside substantial leadership experience within a school, music education, cultural organisation or music industry environment.

If you're an experienced senior leader with the ability to quickly take ownership of a complex service and provide effective leadership from day one, we'd like to hear from you.
