Are you an experienced and resilient Level 2 Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting young people with additional needs?

We are recruiting for a Level 2 Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND/SEMH setting in Derby (DE24) from September. This is a full-time, long-term temporary role, ideal for someone who is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of pupils who require additional support to succeed both academically and emotionally.

About the Role

You will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The role involves providing both one-to-one and small group support, helping pupils engage with learning, regulate their emotions and develop positive relationships.

No two days are the same. You will be expected to build trusting relationships with pupils, encourage positive behaviour through consistent strategies and adapt your approach to meet individual learning and emotional needs. Patience, resilience and a calm, proactive attitude are essential.

You will also assist with classroom activities, support behaviour management, promote independence and contribute to creating a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment. Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other professionals, you will help pupils overcome barriers to learning and celebrate their progress.

Essential Requirements

  • Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).

  • A Psychology qualification or Psychology degree.

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.

  • An Enhanced DBS for both the Child and Adult Workforce, registered on the DBS Update Service.

  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people and helping them achieve their potential.

If you have the experience, dedication and resilience to thrive in a specialist educational setting, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today to be considered for this September start.
