Senior Area Surveyor

Rate: Negotiable
Contract: 3 Months Ongoing
Spencer Clarke Group are looking for an experienced Senior Area Surveyor to support a large public sector housing landlord within an Asset Maintenance function. You will take a lead role across one of several geographical areas, managing condition, compliance, planned works, and reactive maintenance across a varied housing stock.
This is a hands-on role combining technical building surveying, contract management, and team leadership. You will work closely with surveyors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to drive performance, improve stock condition, and support delivery against Decent Homes and wider housing standards.
Responsibilities include
- Leading surveying activity across a defined area, including complex repairs and building issues
- Managing and improving delivery across reactive repairs, voids, and planned maintenance workstreams
- Specifying works, producing scopes, supporting procurement, and managing contract performance via KPIs
- Supporting compliance activity and best practice across relevant statutory and regulatory requirements
- Overseeing projects end to end, including investigations, options appraisals, budgets, tender documentation, valuations, and final accounts
- Acting as a technical point of escalation for internal teams, members, and residents when required
- Supporting planned programmes and long-term maintenance forecasting
About you
- Strong background in housing or public sector building surveying, repairs, and planned maintenance
- Experience working with term maintenance or partnering style contracts
- Working knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts, and strong H&S awareness
- Confident managing contractors and stakeholders, and able to handle escalations professionally
- Ideally degree-qualified in a building surveying discipline or equivalent experience
- Ideally professionally qualified, for example RICS or CIOB
