Service Director, Planning and Transport
Location: North East England
Rate: £800 Per day
Contract: 3 Months Initially
Spencer Clarke Group are supporting a large public sector organisation in the North East to appoint an Interim Service Director to lead its Planning and Transport services during a key period of transformation.
This is a senior leadership role, covering planning policy and Local Plan, development management, strategic transport, engineering design and wider place-based priorities including regeneration, infrastructure and climate responsibility.
Responsibilities include
- Strategic leadership of planning policy, Local Plan and development management
- Oversight of strategic transport policy, highways and network management, engineering design and flooding/LLFA responsibilities
- Leadership of major projects supporting housing delivery, infrastructure investment and regeneration
- Senior reporting to members, committees and stakeholders, with high-quality written briefing
- Service transformation, performance improvement, risk management and budget leadership
About you
- Senior local government leader with strong planning background (Service Director, Head of Service, Assistant Director level)
- Track record delivering Local Plans and driving improvement across development management
- Strong understanding of transport/highways and infrastructure delivery in a complex public sector setting
- Confident operating in political environments and leading organisational change
