Head of Waste
Location: South West
Rate: £650 Per day
Contract: 3 - 6 Months
Spencer Clarke Group are recruiting for an Interim Head of Waste to lead a high-profile local authority waste service during a key period of change and delivery.
This is a hands-on leadership assignment, providing immediate direction across a service of staff, embedding a new service structure, and driving delivery against strategic priorities, savings and improvement programmes.
Responsibilities include
- Provide visible leadership across the Waste Service, including direct management of senior leads and overall responsibility for a multi-disciplinary team
- Lead delivery of the Waste and Resources Strategy and associated delivery plan
- Strategic oversight of major waste collection, cleansing and infrastructure contracts, driving performance and value for money
- Own financial management for a significant budget, maintaining control while delivering agreed savings
- Drive forward critical programmes supporting service improvement, compliance and future service design
- Manage senior stakeholder relationships, including advising senior officers and elected Members
About you
- Senior leadership experience within waste management (local authority or similarly complex environment)
- Strong track record leading change/transformation and delivering savings
- Significant experience in large-scale contract management
- Proven budget management experience, including delivering savings under tight financial constraints
- Confident advising senior stakeholders and working with Members, contractors and partners
- Strong knowledge of relevant waste legislation/strategy
- CIWM / Chartered Waste Manager MCIWM is highly desirable
