Location: London
Rate: £25-£32 per hour
Contract: interim/ongoing
Spencer Clarke Group are supporting a local authority to appoint a Planner within their Planning Service.
This role will manage a varied caseload of planning applications, including more complex householder work, prior approvals, lawful development certificates, change of use matters, pre application advice and minor developments. You will also support related planning appeals and provide timely, clear advice to members, developers and the public.
Responsibilities include
* Managing a mixed caseload of planning applications from validation through to decision, meeting statutory timescales and internal targets
* Providing high quality pre application guidance to applicants, agents and stakeholders
* Responding to enquiries from residents, councillors and developers, giving clear advice aligned to policy and legislation
* Preparing and presenting cases at Planning Committee with support from senior colleagues, and completing follow up actions
* Leading on smaller planning appeals, including written representations and fast track processes
* Liaising with internal teams and external consultees to secure responses and progress applications and appeals
* Undertaking site visits and recording findings to inform recommendations
* Applying planning legislation, local policy and relevant frameworks consistently in decision making
* Supporting wider planning team objectives and working effectively in a deadline driven environment
About you
* Recent experience handling a development management caseload within a local authority or similar setting
* Strong working knowledge of planning legislation, policy and decision making processes
* Confident communicator able to deal professionally with the public, members and agents
* Experience contributing to committee reports and presenting cases, or the ability to pick this up quickly
* Understanding of planning appeals processes and evidence based recommendations
* Organised and target focused, able to manage competing deadlines and priorities
* Willingness to carry out site visits and attend occasional meetings outside normal hours
