Spencer Clarke Group are seeking a Local Taxation Officer for a local authority in Berkshire.
In this role, you will use your specialist Business Rates knowledge and NEC systems experience to manage billing, collection and recovery, ensuring income is maximised and legislation and Council policies are followed.
Duties:
- Manage Business Rates billing, collection and recovery in line with legislation and Council policy.
- Investigate complex accounts, apply reliefs and exemptions, and resolve disputes accurately and efficiently.
- Take appropriate recovery and enforcement action, including payment arrangements and Enforcement Agent referrals.
- Use NEC systems to maintain accurate records, monitor accounts and deliver timely, effective outcomes
Qualifications and Experience:
- Extensive practical experience in Business Rates administration, billing, collection and recovery.
- Strong knowledge of the current Business Rates scheme, including changes introduced from April 2026.
- Proven experience using NEC Revenues & Benefits systems in a Business Rates environment.
- Experience handling complex cases, recovery action, negotiations and customer enquiries.
What's on offer:
Salary: £30ph
*may negotiate higher for exceptional candidates, based on experience*
Contract type: 3-6 months minimum
Hours: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week
