SEN Teaching Assistant - Norwich

We are seeking a committed, resilient and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEMH school in Norwich, helping children and young people overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence, emotional resilience and skills they need to thrive.

About the role:

You will be supporting pupils within a specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) setting, providing a safe, structured and nurturing environment where children and young people can feel secure and engage with education.

The school takes a therapeutic and trauma-informed approach, recognising that challenging behaviour is often linked to underlying emotional needs such as anxiety, trauma, emotional dysregulation, low confidence or mental health difficulties, rather than being primarily associated with learning disabilities.

You will provide support on a 1:1 and small-group basis, helping pupils access learning, develop positive relationships, manage their emotions and build confidence. The role requires someone who can remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging behaviour, while taking the time to understand what may be behind that behaviour.

You will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to ensure pupils receive consistent, individualised support and have the opportunity to make meaningful progress.

We welcome applicants with experience in:

Care work, security, military, nursing, police, youth work, mental health, residential care or other challenging and high-responsibility environments. Experience working within schools, SEMH, SEND or therapeutic settings would also be highly advantageous.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
