SENCO required for January 2027 - exciting leadership opportunity in a rapidly improving secondary school

A highly regarded secondary school in Outer London is seeking to appoint an experienced and passionate SENCO to lead and develop its SEND provision from January 2027.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified SENCO, or an experienced teacher willing to undertake the SENCO qualification, to take a key strategic role within a school that is committed to improving outcomes and ensuring that every student receives the support and opportunities they need to succeed.

The Role

As SENCO, you will take a lead role in the development and coordination of SEND provision across the school. You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, teachers, pastoral colleagues, parents/carers and external agencies to ensure students with SEND receive high-quality, effective and personalised support.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading and developing high-quality SEND provision across the school.
• Promoting inclusive teaching and learning and ensuring the needs of students with SEND are effectively met.
• Leading the development of differentiated and personalised learning.
• Coordinating the effective deployment and support of Teaching Assistants.
• Ensuring statutory responsibilities relating to EHCPs and SEND provision are fulfilled.
• Overseeing the identification, assessment and review of SEND provision and student progress.
• Analysing data and implementing appropriate interventions where students are underperforming.
• Providing professional guidance to teachers to secure high-quality teaching for students with SEND.
• Working collaboratively with parents, carers, external agencies and other professionals.
• Supporting transition arrangements and continuity of provision.
• Contributing to wider SEND strategy and development across the Trust.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be a qualified teacher with experience of working in a secondary school and will have a strong understanding of effective SEND practice.

You will ideally have:

• Qualified Teacher Status and a degree.
• The SENCO qualification, or a willingness to undertake it.
• Proven experience of successful teaching within a secondary setting.
• Strong leadership and organisational skills.
• High expectations for students with SEND and a commitment to improving outcomes.
• The ability to analyse data and use evidence to inform provision and interventions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to build effective relationships with students, staff, parents/carers and external professionals.
• A collaborative and solution-focused approach.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
